I read a lot of blogs (at last count my feedreader has some 600 blogs and websites in it), and there are so many exceptional sites out there that, literally, NO ONE reads. So, yes, I've seen what you're talking about too.

I think what misleads people is the fundamental survivor bias of it all. We tend to see the blogs that are well-known because those are the blogs that are... well-known. Nobody sees the blogs that nobody sees. So we think: "Hey, I can write as well as XYZ blogger! I should get readers too!" It's a road to perdition via extrinsic validation. :)

So, once again, agreed. If you want to write, don't hold your breath waiting for the world to beat a path to your door. Do it for yourself. Just write. And keep writing.

DKDanielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02388302796031288076noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37886248.post-22730563960205447402014-01-14T11:17:55.227-08:002014-01-14T11:17:55.227-08:00I think there is really only one question that a w...I think there is really only one question that a would-be blogger should ask, and one person of whom she should ask it.

The person is herself.

The question is "do I already write every day just for myself?"

Because most blogs, even those which attempt to be instructive, thoughtful, beautiful, and/or entertaining, are going to be read by very few people.

So the writer needs to be prepared to write a lot, for a long time, without any feedback at all ... and without any grandiose notions of becoming a freelance-writing millionaire.

The writing, in other words, needs to be habitual, persistent, and done for its own sake.chacha1http://www.ombailamos.comnoreply@blogger.com
