We don't track them that way.

For your question on tracking overall investment balances, there is definitely merit in doing so. We track our account balances too, but just not our on our Wall Chart.

Also, wait until Chapter 8: you'll find be more context there on this topic and how to incorporate it in your Wall Chart.

DKDanielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02388302796031288076noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37886248.post-91387010150183639362014-09-30T13:28:38.923-07:002014-09-30T13:28:38.923-07:00Interesting to see that you broke income into two ...Interesting to see that you broke income into two categories. Income vs. spending did seem a little simplistic. What about, for example, investments? Do you log those as "purchases"? (Because theoretically they could lose value, so they aren't, in the strictest sense, savings like cash would be, right? But it seems incomplete to neglect that part of the process.)

Would it make sense to track three lines: income, spending (NOT including investment "purchases"), and investment account balance?

How did you handle this? How would you recommend handling it?

I agree with you and Laura regarding the privacy of the wall chart. I cannot foresee having my wall chart out in the open where ANYONE other than myself would be able to view it.

RE: "Not buying a gazingus pin now becomes a source of fulfillment because you yourself have determined that gazingus pins don't bring you fulfillment."

AH! YES! THIS!!! This concept snuck up on me once I started following Mr. Money Mustache some time ago, and it still blows my mind how fulfilling it is NOT to spend money.
