Links from around the internet. As always, I welcome your thoughts.

Foie Gras is not unethical. (Serious Eats)

Nobody makes us stay on the couch or eat junk food--they just sell stuff we keep buying. (LinkedIn)

25 rules of disinformation. (Washington’s Blog) Many of these should sound familiar to CK readers.

What I did right--and wrong--on my path to early retirement. (Early Retirement Extreme)

How to get more, and bettter, sleep. (Nerd Fitness, via Ombailamos)

Another laughably cheap and hilariously easy recipe from Melissa: Chicken Chickpea Curry. (Alosha’s Kitchen)

Book recommendation: How to Survive Without a Salary by Charles Long. Laura and I just finished this book, and we both highly recommend it for readers seeking strategies and solutions either for achieving early retirement, or for reducing your dependence on traditional salary income. Obligatory warning to consumerist readers: this book will at best irritate you and at worst send you into spasms of rationalization and ego defense, and you’ll construct dozens of rigorous-sounding “reasons” why none of its ideas will work.

I have that Charles Long book. I remember enjoying it except for one thing - the fact that he's Canadian, so his health care situation is vastly different than those of us in the US>

I requested it from the library! Thanks for the recommend.

Marcia, good point: on the specific subject of healthcare, you're right--it's a bit of a weakness.

However, I guess now that we in the USA have the new Affordable Care Act, *every* book that addresses health care/health insurance costs is now more or less obsolete. ;)

Mary: I'm definitely interested in your views on it! If you write about it at your site, let me know, okay?

thanks for the piece on foie gras. The Sonoma farm has, I believe, closed operations since the July 2012 in-effect date of a state law banning production & sale of foie gras.

California residents can still BUY foie gras ... from out-of-state producers. This is an example of how local laws can be really stupidly ineffective.

My husband and I were hoarding some foie gras from pre-ban, and had it for our 12th anniversary dinner. mmmmm yummmy.

p.s. thanks for the link!
