I couldn't agree more about the need for self-published books to be edited. As a professional freelance copyeditor, I shudder when I read self-published books that haven't been proofread. I've even put down books that had been highly recommended - three typos on the first page was too much for me to handle. I didn't care to see the rest. Hiring an editor doesn't have to be expensive. In my mind, there's no excuse.

Uh...end rant.
